Meet the Locals
Taste the World
Avondale & New Lynn are fast being recognized as foodie destinations with quality examples of international cuisine. You’ll find tastes of Korea, Japan and Turkey, while the kids will be thrilled to know there’s an award-winning ice cream shop within walking distance. Many of these tasty destinations are located at the Brickworks indoor and outdoor mall, a delightful option for outdoor dining in the summer or a movie in the winter.
Reflective of the area’s rich agricultural history, Avondale has long attracted an array of cultures and all are represented at the country’s largest weekly market on the Avondale Racecourse. The Whau River forms a boundary between Avondale and Waterview and was historically used to transport people and goods from the Manukau Harbour to the Waitemata Harbour. Now there is the Te Whau Pathway, a walking and cycling path along the western edge of the Whau River from Te Atatu Peninsula to Olympic Park in New Lynn. The path is planned to continue to Green Bay beach connecting the Waitemata Harbour to the Manukau Harbour.
If your family’s priorities involve quality education, look no further than your local surrounds. An excellent array of educational institutions surround Tamora Lane from preschool through to tertiary. Tamora is zoned for Avondale Primary, Intermediate and College, all well-respected schools, while Unitech is just a few kilometres away. Avondale also has a library and community centre.
If staying fit and healthy is top of your list, the abundance of parks nearby offer many sporty options, Ken Maunder Park has a multi-sport indoor centre and walking track, while golfers will find sanctuary at Chamberlain Park Golf Course. Cyclists and joggers can run up and down the river on the newly built Te Whau Pathway. And kids will make a beeline for the local skateboard and trampoline parks.
Nearby LynnMall offers a huge variety of shopping options, plus a decadent food mall in the Brickworks precinct, along with movie theatres, perfect for wet winter days or even hot summer afternoons when you need a respite from the heat. There are many other nearby entertainment options, including delicious cafes, the Hollywood Cinema and Paradise Ice skating rink.
